White Hot Kiss:

One kiss could be the last.

Seventeen-year-old Layla just wants to be normal. But with a kiss that kills anything with a soul, she’s anything but normal. Half demon, half gargoyle, Layla has abilities no one else possesses.

Raised among the Wardens—a race of gargoyles tasked with hunting demons and keeping humanity safe—Layla tries to fit in, but that means hiding her own dark side from those she loves the most. Especially Zayne, the swoon-worthy, incredibly gorgeous and completely off-limits Warden she’s crushed on since forever.

Then she meets Roth—a tattooed, sinfully hot demon who claims to know all her secrets. Layla knows she should stay away, but she’s not sure she wants to—especially when that whole no-kissing thing isn’t an issue, considering Roth has no soul.

But when Layla discovers she’s the reason for the violent demon uprising, trusting Roth could not only ruin her chances with Zayne… it could brand her a traitor to her family. Worse yet, it could become a one-way ticket to the end of the world.

Stone Cold Touch:

Every touch has its price

Layla Shaw is trying to pick up the pieces of her shattered life—no easy task for a seventeen-year-old who’s pretty sure things can’t get worse. Her impossibly gorgeous best friend, Zayne, is forever off-limits thanks to the mysterious powers of her soul-stealing kiss. The Warden clan that has always protected her is suddenly keeping dangerous secrets. And she can barely think about Roth, the wickedly hot demon prince who understood her in ways no one else could.

But sometimes rock bottom is only the beginning. Because suddenly Layla’s powers begin to evolve, and she’s offered a tantalizing taste of what has always been forbidden. Then, when she least expects it, Roth returns, bringing news that could change her world forever. She’s finally getting what she always wanted, but with hell literally breaking loose and the body count adding up, the price may be higher than Layla is willing to pay.

Every Last Breath:

Some loves will last ’til your dying breath

Every choice has consequences—but seventeen-year-old Layla faces tougher choices than most. Light or darkness. Wickedly sexy demon prince Roth, or Zayne, the gorgeous, protective Warden she never thought could be hers. Hardest of all, Layla has to decide which side of herself to trust.

Layla has a new problem, too. A Lilin—the deadliest of demons—has been unleashed, wreaking havoc on those around her…including her best friend. To keep Sam from a fate much, much worse than death, Layla must strike a deal with the enemy while saving her city—and her race—from destruction.

Torn between two worlds and two different boys, Layla has no certainties, least of all survival, especially when an old bargain comes back to haunt them all. But sometimes, when secrets are everywhere and the truth seems unknowable, you have to listen to your heart, pick a side—and then fight like hell.

When I first started this series, I wanted to write a review on each book. I had every intention of finishing the book, jumping on here and telling all of you the details of each book. However, I couldn’t put any of the books down. JLA had me sucked in from the beginning. When each book ended, I HAD to pick up and start the next one.

Every seventeen-year-old is trying to figure out who they are and what they want to do with their lives. However, Layla’s struggle started when she was seven. She was told half of what makes her, her is horrible and needs to be destroyed. She’s also never been able to get close to anyone because if she kisses someone, she will take their soul. There were times when I was a little annoyed with Layla’s lack of faith in herself. I know as a teenager she should be moody but teenagers are also known to be selfish and Layla was never selfish. She was never strong in her belief in herself and if I had to criticize one aspect of the book, it would be her lack of self-worth.

My Review:

Abbott found Layla when she was seven and brought her into his home with his son Zayne. Zayne is like a big brother to Layla, but Layla hasn’t seen him that way for a long time. Her love of Zayne goes way beyond a sibling love and Layla has never been able to act on it because one kiss, and Zayne’s soul is gone forever. She never thought a future with him (or anyone) was possible, until Roth shows up. Now Layla must decide if she is willing to risk a life with Roth or stay safe (as safe as they can be) with Zayne. I absolutely loved this “love triangle”. Usually within the first three chapters I know who I want the main character to end up with. However, with each book it changed for me. I’ve never had a book/series do that before and I think it takes an extraordinary writer to accomplish that.

Like everything I’ve read from JLA, I really enjoyed this series. It took a few turns I didn’t expect and I love how it ended (no spoilers). My takeaway from the books, is to trust yourself and believe who you are and what you’re doing is good enough. You don’t need to please anyone or make anyone happy except yourself.

Recommendation:

I would definitely recommend these books to:

  • Anyone who enjoys a love-triangle.
  • Anyone who loves reading book series.
  • Anyone interested in Angels and Demons and Heaven and Hell.
