Happy Friday!!! You made it to the weekend! Also, Happy Star Wars day! When I realized Disney Friday landed on Star Wars day it was like the stars aligning (bad pun? #sorrynotsorry) Today is the perfect day to talk about the new and fantastic (it’s Disney, we all know it will be fantastic) Star Wars Land!
“What is Star Wars Land?“
That is this weeks Disney Friday question.
Over the past couple years, Disney unveiled a new “Land” coming to Disneyland in CA and Walt Disney World in FL. We’ve seen Cars Land, Pandora, and the newly opened Toy Story Land. But this, this new land, set to release in 2019, is set in a galaxy far, far away. Amongst Jedi, droids, and even the first order. This land is dedicated to Star Wars.
The official name of this new land: Star Wars: Galaxy Edge
In Disneyland it is set to open in the Big Thunder Ranch area of the Disneyland Park. In Walt Disney World you will find it at Hollywood Studios on the opposite side of Tower of Terror and Rockin’ Rollercoaster.
Both parks will featured two new rides including one that will put you as a driver behind the Millennium Falcon. You will also be taking part in a battle between the Resistance and the First Order. Don’t worry, you will still be able to ride Star Tours, C3PO isn’t going anywhere. In fact, Rex is scheduled to DJ at the new cantina down the road.
Disney Parks Blog shared the following about the “planet” you will be”transported” to when entering the new land. They also mention this new “outpost” (Batuu) does not exist in the Star Wars realm yet. Does that mean it might in future movies? Hmmm…. One can hope.
“The remote village was once a busy crossroads along the old sub-lightspeed trade routes, but the prominence of the outpost has been bypassed with the rise of hyperspace travel.”
(Side note… Does this remind anyone of Cars and Route 66? No? Just me… Whelp…)
In Disney’s D23’s expo last year they discussed two unique guest experiences. The first, guest will have the opportunity to choose to between being a part of the Resistance or the First Order.
The second, characters will have the opportunity to interact on a personal level with guests due to new technology in Magic Bands. Is this similar technology used in line on Expedition Everest and Rockin’ Rollercoaster to welcome you by name? Or on the ride at Haunted Mansion when the Ghosts hitchhike back home with you? Guess you’re just going to have to see it for yourself to find out.
Disney has always worked hard to immerse guests in each area. Star Wars:Galaxy Edge will be no different. You will see characters like Kylo Ren, Chewbacca and even BB-8, as the theme revolves around the most recent movies like The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi. No mice or princesses for this land.
The new food and beverage location will be styled after the cantina’s in A New Hope and The Force Awakens. You’ll even get to try the blue milk Luke drinks.
While all of this sounds amazing, the most noteworthy feature coming with this Star Wars Land is a new hotel. This hotel won’t be like the traditional Disney resorts. Guests will be able to stay onsite for 3 days (rumor) and they will be immersed in the Star Wars universe. It will be the first hotel of its kind on Disney property. Stay tuned for more info!
Disney has, carefully, held on to an exact open date, but they did mention they will be open before the D23 expo in Summer of 2019. *Fingers crossed for January 1st!*
So are you excited for the new Land addition to the Disney Parks? Are you a part of the Resistance or the First Order? Are you brave enough to try the blue milk? Let me know!
