I Heart Characters: Week 6!

“I Heart Characters! is a weekly meme hosted by Dani @ Perspective of a Writer to showcase our book blogger love for characters! Each week she’ll supply a topic and you’ll supply the character. Post on whatever day suits you, about characters from whatever media you love (books, movies, K-dramas, television, manga, anime, webtoons, whatever!) and link up on Thursday so YOU and others can blog hop and share the character love. ♡”

It’s I Heart Character Day!! Happy Thursday everyone! This week’s I Heart Character topic is Man You Want Next Door (A male character you wouldn’t mind as a neighbor).

My pick?

Simon Lewis from The Mortal Instrument Series by Cassandra Clare

Simon Lewis is Clary Fray’s best friend. From the moment Clary entered his life they have been inseparable. He developed feelings for Clary but she didn’t reciprocate and although this hurt Simon he vowed to keep her safe and stay her best friend. Clary enters the life of the shadowhunters and this leaves Simon on the back burner and it causes stress on their relationship. Eventually Simon becomes a Daylighter, which is a Vampire that can go outside during the day, and he is thrown full force into Clary’s new life.

He’s super funny and pretty cheesy.

“Jesus!” Luke exclaimed.
“Actually, it’s just me,” said Simon. “Although I’ve been told the resemblance is startling.”

“Do you remember back at the hotel when you promised that if we lived, you’d get dressed up in a nurse’s outfit and give me a sponge bath?” asked Jace.
“It was Simon who promised you the sponge bath.”
“As soon as I’m back on my feet, handsome,” said Simon.
“I knew we should have left you a rat.”

He loves Clary.

“Look,” Luke went on, “In all the years I’ve known him, there’s always been exactly one place Simon wanted to be, and he’s always fought like hell to make sure he got there and stayed there.”
“Where’s that?”
“Wherever you were.”

“I wouldn’t change it,” Simon said. “I wouldn’t give up loving you. Not for anything. You know what Raphael told me? That I didn’t know how to be a good vampire, that vampires accept that they’re dead. But as long as I remember what it was like to love you, I’ll always feel like I’m alive.”

He becomes a vampire.

“I’ve got the Mark of Cain,” said Simon. “That means nothing can kill me, right?”
“You can kill yourself,” Magnus said, somewhat unhelpfully. “As far as I know, inanimate objects can accidentally kill you. So if you were planning on teaching yourself the lambada on a greased platform over a pit full of knives, I wouldn’t.”
“There goes my Saturday.”

His relationship with Isabelle is awkward and cute.

“Simon hid the fact that he was inordinately pleased by this. “Are we officially boyfriend
and girlfriend? Is there a Shadowhunter ritual? Should I change my Facebook status from ‘it’s complicated’ to ‘in a relationship’?”
Isabelle screwed up her nose adorably. “You have a book that’s also a face?”
― Cassandra ClareCity of Heavenly Fire

“Mothers, lock up your daughters, then lock up your maidservants, then lock up yourselves. Lord Montgomery is on the prowl”
― Cassandra ClareCity of Heavenly Fire

“Isabelle!” Simon called. “Stop throwing clothes at me! Just because you’re a Shadowhunter and I’m a vampire doesn’t mean we can never happen. Our love is forbidden like the love of a shark and a—and a shark hunter. But that’s what makes it special.”

This was an easy choice for me. He is smart, cute (but not hot), he loves the MC but is stuck in the friendzone and he plays in a band. This is basically my definition of “Boy Next Door”.

Who would be your ideal guy next door?
